HOW TO BECOME AN ADVANCED ENGLISH SPEAKER

How to go from a begginner to advanced (in English).

Watch English television, such as news programs (e.g. BBC Worlds can be viewed in many parts of the world). While watching shows with words that you may not understand, while using a notebook and pen, write the word down (how you think it's spelled) and then find its correct spelling and find out what the word means.

Do not have subtitles when watching TV series or movies.

Read aloud in order to build both your written and spoken vocabulary.

Practice writing a lot. Essays, article contributions, blogging, etc.

Communicate as much as possible in English.

Make use of the dictionary or thesaurus.

Be relaxed and confident when speaking English.

Build English vocabulary at the appropriate level; otherwise you will remain an average English speaker.

Always listen in English Language Arts to improve your speaking skills.

Interacting with people in person or over a chat room is also very beneficial

And read English constantly, whether it is books like Harry Potter or non-fiction, scholarly works.

Tips :
  • The proprioceptive sense is not all that you are retraining when you learn spoken English. There is cognitive learning (memory) which must also take place. Grammar-based English instruction has emphasized cognitive learning to the exclusion of retraining the proprioceptive sense. Nonetheless, cognitive learning is an important part of learning to speak English fluently.
  • However, just as you will hinder proprioceptive training by trying to study silently, so you will also limit cognitive learning by reading from a text rather than constructing the syntax in your own mind. If you are studying English with Spoken English Learned Quickly, you may use the written text when you first study a new exercise. However, after repeating the exercise two or three times, you must close the text and do the exercise from recall memory as you listen to the audio recording. You must force your mind to think in English by using your recall memory when you are studying spoken exercises.
  • Use an English dictionary instead of a bilingual dictionary (as you progress).
  • Use Espoir Smart English through programs. They are very effective for adult English learners. It is based on Content Based Instruction, a powerful technique in developing a language. You will automatically start thinking in English.
  • For effective learning and smooth fluency, it is also necessary that you must always think in English.
  • Watch movies in English without subtitles or English language satellite channels like BBC or CNN and try to understand it.
  • For speech to occur, your mind must be actively involved in syntax development. The more actively your mind is involved in spoken English, the more effective the learning process becomes.
  • Grammar is very important. Lay yourself a good grammar foundation and your English will improve exponentially. Nevertheless, don't get bogged down and held back by grammar rules. You want to speak the language, not learn how it's spoken.
  • Find a friend with whom you can practice English.
  • Grammar is not only about sentence/verb formations. You should understand the implied meaning associated with the grammar used.
